Health & Wellbeing

 

 

Span offer a varied and diverse range of health and wellbeing activities. Tutors are skilled and qualified, classes are kept to small sizes to allow enough space and attention to allow for participants to achieve what they wish. All activities are held in a comfortable and relaxed space.

Physical activity is an important component of maintaining a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle, especially as you grow older.

Span is resourced to fund NDIS clients with mild disabilities. Span is not a NDIS provider but provides activities under NDIS plans.

Gentle Exercise

Mindful Movement

Mindful Movement is an holistic wellness practice that incorporates elements of mindfulness, yoga, Qigong, Pilates, functional training and mobility exercises. 

Practicing Mindful Movement helps to cultivate greater awareness of the mind, deepens connection to the breath and is a pragmatic way to embody ancient spiritual wisdom and philosophy.

Pilates

Danielle’s classes offer a low impact exercise, designed to improve overall core strength and flexibility. 

Pilates is a system based in deep breathing that stretches and strengthens the muscles without stressing joint and ligaments. Special techniques will be used to help restore the natural curve of the spine. 

Exercises can be modified to accommodate all fitness levels.

Delivered on zoom each week. Recording of zoom session shared.

Qi Gong

Tutor: Sarah Finlay

Span Community House is collaborating with researchers from RMIT University to try out an online Qi Gong program to see how well it works.   

We are seeking participants who:  

    • Are older adults, aged 60 years or over    
    • Have not undertaken Qi Gong in the last 5 years   
    • Have access to the internet, & a tablet, a smartphone or a computer   
    • Have basic limb movement in either a sitting or standing position   
    • Do not have severe visual &/or hearing impairment that would prevent you from engaging in the online program   

Participation requires your weekly commitment to a one-hour online session for 6 weeks, Wednesday’s 3-4pm, from 18 May to 22 June 2022.  

Numbers are limited to 10 participants.  

You can express your interest in the Qi Gong Plus program by completing a short screening questionnaire.

Yang 24 will be taught in terms 3 and 4. The most popular style of Tai Chi in the world. This form is the style of the Emperor of China. It is a gracious and regal form of Tai Chi. Suitable for beginners and advanced practitioners.
