Span is stepping up it’s sustainability game with the expansion of current initiatives and the addition of some new ones!
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, custodians of the unceded land that Span is on and recognise their ongoing efforts to protect land and water.
At Span we want to do our part to maintain and improve our local environment and community and want to include more people in helping us do this.
We’re keen to engage people from across Darebin and beyond in some or all activities – the more the merrier as we develop our Sustainability Squad and kick goals for the community and the environment!
We’ll be updating info here as we evolve and are keen to hear if you have any ideas for supporting our expanding this community activity.
Since winding up our formally funded sustainability project in late 2022, we have been busy consolidating our activities to keep delivering the services that are needed in our community.
Our RRR Hub (Repair. Reuse. Recycle.) activities will continue, with all of the items we are taking and their ongoing uses explained on the Reuse & Recycle link below. Repair activities will continue to be delivered by our partners @ Transition Darebin with their main events happening every second month. You can follow their Facebook page to get alerts about future Repair Cafes. The wonderful Darebin Hard Rubbish Heroes are working on recreating the success of the pilot reLove Pop-up Shop that we partnered on last year, so there are lots of good things to come there!
In addition to selling coffee to support the activities of Friends of Baucau, we are now selling Kenshi Life Changing Candles here as Span as well.
These candles give employment to refugees from Myanmar, support food relief for those in need and the ones sold through Span can help to directly support our own food relief and sustainaility programs.
We are very excited to offer these beautiful candles and hope you will consider them the next time you need one for home or are looking for a gift for a special somenone!
